WGNA Board Elections on May 13

Will you be a candidate?

May 13th is the date for the Association’s annual general membership meeting and for the election of  board officers and directors. For over thirty years the Association has relied on willing and able volunteers to help maintain and enhance our neighborhoods.  Are you interested in continuing that service?

The Board is responsible for the conduct and management of WGNA’s business.  Officers and directors serve one-year terms.  The officers are president, first vice-president, second vice-president, secretary and treasurer who serve along with four elected directors and up to four appointed directors.  The Board generally meets nine times per year and occasionally has special meetings.  WGNA members also elect a nominating committee which develops a slate of candidates for the elected board positions.

Qualification for officers is basic:  membership for one year prior to the date of the election.

WGNA looks for board members who represent the community’s interests, work cooperatively with colleagues, are familiar with the area’s needs or are willing to learn, and can contribute at least six hours of time per month to WGNA activities and meetings.

For its elections, WGNA uses mail-in/return ballots, insuring that all members have the opportunity to vote, regardless of ability to attend the general meeting.  Notice of the annual meeting, including the ballot, is mailed to all members in good standing; the ballot can be returned by mail or handed

in at the meeting.  Election is by a plurality of those voting, providing that at least 10% of the membership votes.

If you are interesting in serving on the board, contact the nominating committee,

as the mail-in/return ballot system does not provide for nominations from the floor at the membership meeting.  You’ll be asked about your interest and experience.  The committee will report to the membership with a ballot that includes a slate of candidates and the names of all others

who choose to be candidates.  Members also can ask to be appointed as directors.

Who do you contact?

John Gibbs is the chair of the nominating committee – contact him by April 3rd at  johnandali@sbcglobal.net

Other committee members are Kris Cunningham, Margaret Hardy, Helen Solinski and Steve Kaylor; They will be pleased to get your emails.
